our kindergarten girl

counting down the days...
finally..it's the night before kindergarten!
her aunt mimi sent her the book (thank you missy!!) and her teacher gave her the ready confetti to put under her pillow. she loved all the special treatment :)
the big day is finally here!!
we were trying to find great places to snap pictures that morning and this was her idea :)
standing in front of the school which is in its 100th year getting ready to walk in for the 1st time. i was so thankful parents could walk them to their classroom doors the first 2 days. i taught school for ten years, and i taught 2 and one half school years after mm was born but this is still such a new experience! i have such a new empathy for parents who haven't been to an elementary school since they were IN elementary school! and so many moms of my students who asked me 100 questions...now i get it. :) i SO get it. it's all i can do not to bug mrs. bryan every day with questions. i know now they were just asking because i was caring for their very heart for eight hours a day and no detail is irrelevant to a mother.
and there she is...our kindergarten girl! parents weren't supposed to linger so this was a quick walking away shot...so far she is loving it! the first few days were tough because she was worn out but now she is in the swing of it and having fun. we have been praying about school for months and monday night on labor day as i was putting her to bed i said, "try to go to sleep fast because...." and she interrupted me and said, " because tomorrow is another happy kindergarten day!" i'd call that an answered prayer. :)

william's 3 year update

william turned 3 on may 26th and had his well child check-up the 1st week of june. he was 36 inches tall and weighed 29.5 pounds. which puts him in the 20th percentile for weight and height.

we started potty training the weekend before he turned 3 and it worked out well for us to wait a bit. he had relatively few accidents and never got frustrated. i took the pacifer from him right after he turned 2 but he still asks for it almost once a week. i just say let me go look for it then hope he forgets.

william's favorite toys are stuffed animals, super hero toys like the batcave and trucks and tractors.
he loves to swim, play outside (when it isn't so HOT) jump on the bed :/ and play with my iphone on the 3 or 4 number and alphabet games we have. and of course he loves riding on his batman big wheel and his john deere tractor here and gator at the farm. he is a bit headstrong which i remember his sister being at that age as well. one thing he has been doing for the last couple of months is running up to me at random times and saying, "mommy, i wuv you" and running off again. i can't pretend i don't love that one.
while his sister was an awesome napper every day until age 4, william is proving to be a little different. she would sleep for 1.5-2 hours every day but william will sleep for at least 3 hours! i know he didn't fall asleep right away, but he'd end up being in his bed for almost 4 hours. it didn't disrupt his sleep really, he just always woke up pretty early. so as he's gotten older we've started just "resting" in his bed, then napping maybe every other day or every 3rd day. i can tell the days he needs a real nap.:) he also got a big boy bed and some new big boy things for his room. we are waiting on a few final things to come before we show before and after photos. despite being a strong willed 3 year old he has such a sweet disposition most of the time and is very loving...and funny. he is just like his sister in that he gets very upset when he makes a bad choice and realizes we are upset with him. the "stern voice" breaks his heart. he will actually say "you bakin' my hawt mama"  :) our baby is growing up whether we like it or not. we are proud of you william!! and we love you so much.

our little graduate

all saints' preschool commencement..here comes the "yellow door" processional
mary martin with her yellow door classmates
L-R: julia, caroline, aiden, whit, john preston, mm, celia, nicolas, back: jacob, caleb, kinnon, reed, george, houston, joseph, emerson
mary martin receiving her diploma from mrs. bebe the preschool director
they had been practicing and the teachers told them to stand there for a second and smile so their families could take their picture. this was my favorite moment of the day...mary martin stood there with that huge smile and completely enjoyed her moment in the spotlight.
we were all so proud of her! dede came and got to hear our little songbird. during the program, we could hear her voice slightly over everyone else. at least she can carry a tune...
congratluations little preschool grad! next year you will begin the long march to your 2025 graduation! just remember mary martin, keep your way pure by living according to His word, seek Him with all your heart that you might not stray from His commands, and hide His word in your heart!! (ref.psalm 119:9-11) mommy has been praying for your kindergarten teacher and class, that you will be just where God wants you with a teacher who can love and nurture you as well as challenge and teach you. you are so special to us and we are so proud of you!!

William's 3rd Birthday!

for almost a year william has been saying he wanted a "woody buzz" party when he turned 3.
he loved mm's pony so much, i knew i wanted to have the pony come back for HIS special day. but after last time, i realized i needed something for the kids to do while they waited on a pony ride, so we got a toy story bouncy house!
The party table...toy story was such a fun theme to decorate for because i love all the bright primary colors and the fun prints.

also a lesson learned from mm's party...i had too much food! i threw away over a dozen little sandwiches and i can't remember what else, so this time the menu was: cake and ice cream, popcorn, toy story gummies and lemonade.

party favors:  toy story pez dispensers with etch a sketch tags...i found these as a free printable online!
mm on the pony...guess who did not ride the pony...WILLIAM! he wouldn't get near it!! go figure.
william had lots of sweet friends from church and school... about 15 kids! he had a blast. and another lesson i learned...don't assume each party will be like the next! i think these kids would have eaten more if i'd had more. the jumping must make you hungry. :) but it was still fun, and the 3 and almost 3 year olds loved getting their own lemonade out of the drink dispenser.

thanks to everyone who came and made william's party so much fun.

special delivery

this is what went on while i was at choir one night...then after they 'decorated' it, i didn't have the heart to throw it away for about 2 weeks. i do love to see them not yelling at each other playing sweetly together...which they do about 85% of the time. but wow, that other 15% can be rough. mainly because i try to make everything an even compromise to keep everyone happy. and sometimes that just can't and won't happen. my brother is so much older, we never fought or bickered so this is all new to me. they do love each other so much though and i am glad they will go through school with someone who has their back :)
